Rock-Fluid Centrifuge for Core Analysis

#700-570

Rock-Fluid Centrifuge for Core Analysis Rock-Fluid Centrifuge Interior

Introduction

A properly-equipped centrifuge has many applications in the study of the rock-fluid properties of hydrocarbon reservoirs. Processing the centrifuge core analysis results provides relative permeability and capillary pressure data applicable to reservoir production performance calculations. Because enormous forces on the pore fluids are easily generated in the centrifuge, it is possible to perform experiments that model gravity drainage production processes. Rates and end points are key concerns that can be derived from the measured centrifuge core analysis data.

Features

The OFITE Automated Rock-Fluid Centrifuge was specially designed for core analysis. The maximum rotational speed translates to a capillary pressure greater than 70 PSI, depending on the arm length of the sample holder.

The system employs a CCD line video camera, macro lens, digital linear strobe light, and computer software. Core holders are read sequentially, one through four. Centrifuge tests are normally conducted during speed ramp up, so the transient data is acquired.

The unit reports the rotor speed during the previous revolution, core holder number, elapsed time, and number of camera pixels from the vial bottom to the interface enhancement.

The video camera has 2048 pixels to view the vial, so that .05 mm resolution of the meniscus position is practical. The meniscus position is enhanced with a floating black indicator.
